Ken Mehlman Retires from Politics
Throughout the years, Kenneth Brian “Ken” Mehlman was considered as an expert in political strategy. He administered the re-election campaign of George W. Bush in 2004 and co-established the United States Senate Advisory Committee (USSAC).
In 2005, he was appointed by Bush as the chairman of the Republican National Committee, replacing Ed Gillespie. Two years later, he stepped down from his position, allowing United States Senator Mel Martinez to take his place.
Since then, Ken Mehlman has withdrawn from political endeavors. However, he still busies himself with work at Kolhberg Kravis Roberts and Co, a world-renowned private equity investment firm, as the head and managing director. Mehlman is also involved with the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Foundation, acting as a member of the executive leadership cabinet.
At Kohlberg Kravis, Ken Mehlman centers his work on an environmental program called the Green Portfolio Project. He has performed directly with the Environmental Defense Fund, developing ways to determine a certain company’s involvement with environmental efforts.
Ken Mehlman believes that the environmental support group (EDF) has given KKR good examples on how to make a company become better corporate citizens by being environmentally conscious and involved. He also believes that getting into the thick of environmental issues has become “the right thing to do” for most people.
To this point, Ken Mehlman’s headship at KKR has assisted many businesses to save more than $16 million in Green Portfolio programs. Mehlman’s main goal is to continuously inform people and businesses in various environmental activities because he believes it will help boost a company’s image and performance.
